About Christina


Christina Yocca received her MFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From 1987 until 1995, she taught in Art Department at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, heading the fibers program. She currently serves as a mentor through the Mentor Program at the Textile Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 

She has created site specific, temporary sculptures along the Mississippi River at the Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts,  Manomin Park, Fridley, Minnesota and downtown Rock Island, Illinois for the Quad City Art Center. Other commissioned site specific work was created along the Wood River at Grantsburg, Wisconsin, in Fairmont Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and in the Catskills of New York.


Recently, Christina exhibited at The American Craft Show in St. Paul and at Translations Gallery in Denver, Colorado. Ordinary Alchemy was a two person exhibit with Cassandra Tondro in Translations Gallery’s new space. Upcoming shows include Purpose, Process, Progress at the Joan Mondale Gallery of The Textile Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota and New Work, a solo exhibit at The Space, a centre for creativity in New Richmond, Wisconsin. She has exhibited her organic sculptures nationally. Using branches, clay, fibers, and other natural materials, she creates mysterious forms that echo forces and shapes in nature. 


Grants in support of her work include: Arts Midwest New Partnership Grant, Ruth Chenven Foundation, Inc., and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire University Research and Creative Activities Grant.
