Nature inspires me and provides my materials. After collecting branches, I form them into structures for vessels and wall pieces. I form walls with built-in color from earth clays that I purchase or dig locally. Taking a cue from straw-clay house building, I mix papermaking fibers and straw with clay slip. The clay/fiber mixture dries hard and permanent. Houses built with similar materials in 13th century England remain functional today. I finish pieces with wax or plant based oil. Respecting the environment, my materials can return to the earth. |
